As survivors we know, and the research supports, we need responses that steadfastly hold our dignity and center our voices, our stories, and our needs.

LIA Love In Action
Alongside each history of violence and oppression, there runs a parallel history of prudent, creative, and determined resistance.
Allan Wade, Response Based Practice

Counselling Services

Welcome and I’m glad you’re here. My practice supports women and folks who’ve been impacted by gender-based violence and intersectional violence at any point in their lives. Whether you’re seeking support for the violence you’ve experienced or navigating other challenges with a supporter who holds the context of your experiences of violence with care, this space is for you.

Healing Support For Survivors

LIA offers a healing space for women and folks who have experienced gender-based violence or the layered impacts of oppression. Here, your responses to violence are understood as resistance, adaptiveness, protection, and impact. Together, we support you in reclaiming your story and moving forward at your own pace.

Supporting You In Your Journey

Survivors and co-survivors come to LIA at different points in their journeys. Whether you’re seeking support with current or past experiences of violence, or working through a present challenge, I’m here to walk with you. My approach honours your past experiences and integrates that awareness into our work together. If you’ve been impacted by gender-based or intersectional violence, you are welcome here.

Safe & Collaborative Relational Care

This practice is rooted in dignity, collaboration, and consent. Whether you’re just beginning, somewhere in the middle of your journey, or carrying long-held experiences, you are welcome here. We’ll work together at a pace that honors your needs, centering your choices in everything we do.

Holding, Releasing, Reclaiming, Transforming

Grounded in feminist, intersectional frameworks and integrative practices, sessions are responsive to your needs, experiences, and your priorities. This might include resourcing, grounding, making sense of your experiences, building skills, and taking actionable steps, all while honoring your dignity. What ties it together is our relational collaboration: we follow your wisdom and your goals.

Walking Alongside Survivors

LIA supports women and folks who’ve experienced or have been impacted by gender-based violence and intersectional violence at any point in their lifetime. My practice often supports women and folks who have experienced:

Abuse from a recent or past partner including psychological, emotional, financial, sexual, physical, and social abuse
Sexual assault (SA), harassment, and other violations
Violence that has been perpetrated by a family member, such as a parent or relative, recently, in the past, or childhood.
Layered experiences of gender-based violence and oppression as a neurodivergent person living in an ableist society.
Violence related to colonization including residential schools, Sixties Scoop, and MMIWG
Intersectional violence where gender-based violence is layered with other experiences such as racism.

Therapeutic Practices

Our work is collaborative, consent-based, and responsive to what you bring. Here are some of the practices I can bring to our work together:

Response Based Practice

This practice identifies and honours resistance to violence and oppression and is grounded in survivor dignity and understanding the many ways that people resist the violence perpetrated against them.

When Love Hurts Model

This feminist based framework supports clarity about abuse and how it operates and re-centers the survivor-reclaiming her self-trust, her voice, and her power.

Mind-Body Practice

Offering mindful self-compassion, EMDR, and yoga-integrated practices to support reconnection, tending to feelings and sensations, processing trauma, and fostering healing and transformative change

Intersectional Feminist

Collaobration grounded in the critical analysis of contexts that enable and perpetuate violence and social responses to violence.

Neuro-Affirming Care

Affirming neurodiversity, awareness of & responsive to diverse needs including processing styles and sensory needs, respecting and providing options, adapting practices to reflect neurodivergent experiences, naming and working with the impacts of living in an ableist society.

Prioritizing Cultural Safety

Grounded in practitioner humility, ongoing responsibility, and dedication to uproot anti-Indigenous racism and foster cultural safety in all practice.
